Development of ISO/IEC 29119 began in May of 2007. The expected date of completion is end of 2012 to early 2013.

ISO standards must be released within five years of their initial development, during which time they undergo a rigorous review process that involves four main review/release cycles:

• Working Draft (WD)
• Committee Draft (CD)
• Draft International Standard (DIS)
• Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)
• Final International Standard (FIS)
