Development of ISO/IEC 29119 began in May of 2007. The expected date of completion is May to October 2012.

ISO standards must be released within five years of their initial development, during which time they undergo a rigorous review process that involves five main review/release cycles:

• Working Draft (WD)
• Commitee Draft (CD)
• Final Commitee Draft (FCD)
• Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)
• Final International Standard (FIS)
